What is Meth Addiction?

Methamphetamine is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant due to its potent action on the brain’s dopamine and serotonin chemicals. This highly addictive substance is available in either fine white powder form or in a glass-like substance known as crystal meth.

Methamphetamine users smoke, inject, swallow, or snort meth.

Meth addiction often starts out slowly. Most users find themselves using recreationally with friends or casually at parties. While the immediate feeling is a rush of excitement and entices the user to seek out more of the drug, the cascading impact is damaging for both mental and physical health.

How Prevalent is Meth Addiction?

If you have a meth addiction, you are not alone. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) 2015 report, at least 6% of Americans have tried methamphetamines.

In addition, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment indicates that over 300 overdose deaths in the state alone were caused by meth use.

Furthermore, that statistic has more than tripled since 2012.

How Does Meth Work?

Methamphetamine is a stimulant. It heightens activity in the central nervous system, which has been known to cause

  • increased heart rate
  • elevated body temperature
  • faster breathing
  • higher blood pressure

Meth users often experience increased energy, more focused attention, and heightened pleasure or excitement. While these symptoms are often what draws in meth users, it’s important to note that other symptoms can also occur.

Users of methamphetamine can experience pleasure in a multitude of ways. However, it always seems to come at a cost. Both casual and habitual users, for example, may face breathing difficulties, severe mood swings, extreme weight loss, chest pains, seizures, stroke, and even paranoia. And while a meth “high” increases the desire for activities, when this extremely addictive drug wears off, users often experience a “crash.”

Coupled with internal health issues, meth users can also face:

  • fatigue
  • lethargy
  • fear
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • insatiable hunger

The initial rush of euphoria continues to dwindle and, as addiction sets in, many meth users find it hard to keep up with day-to-day life, or even find enjoyment without using. Outside of physical ailments, meth can also put a strain on relationships and friendships.

Further, meth addiction is often difficult to treat especially if trying to combat symptoms of addiction without outside assistance. It’s imperative to seek licensed professionals that are dedicated to aiding in the healing process.

Colorado Meth Addiction Treatment Program

The National Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) reported in 2014 that over fifty people per 100,000 were receiving care at a specialized Colorado meth addiction treatment center. The American Addiction Research Foundation estimates that twenty million Americans have substance abuse issues.

Colorado substance abuse treatments vary widely.

AspenRidge Recovery takes a dual diagnosis approach in addressing and treating mental health as well as meth addiction. Our commitment to understanding underlying causes allows us to better customize and create different treatment modalities that help individuals to overcome their addiction.

Our Colorado meth addiction treatment center remains committed to addressing substance abuse and also treating the underlying mental health factors that may contribute to relapse. In general, the American Addiction Center has identified treatment including individual counseling, group therapy as an outpatient, partial hospitalization, and/or intensive in-patient hospitalization in a treatment center. We pair these systems with addressing co-occurring mental health disorders.

Treatments may include any or all of the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and trauma therapy, twelve-step and community-based treatment, and Medication Assisted Treatment when necessary.

Clinicians and psychologists who work with meth-addicted clients recognize that the recovery process for such an addiction is a lifelong process and treat you like a human being with compassion and empathy.

How Do You Know You are Ready for Meth Rehab?

Colorado meth addiction treatment programs can be successful only if you are ready to admit that you have a meth addiction and you’re ready to get help.

If you have any of the following signs, then perhaps it is time to seek help for your meth addiction.

Has Your Drug Use Become Your Main Priority?

  • Does your substance abuse consume your thoughts and deeds?
  • Are you spending increasing time, effort, and resources just to acquire meth?
  • Have you lost interest in your work, your friends, your hobbies, your family?
  • Have your relationships and productivity suffered?

Is Your Health Suffering?

  • Substance abuse takes a toll on your body and your mind., causing a range of physical and mental health symptoms:
  • Has your physical health deteriorated as your meth addiction increased?
  • Are you feeling increased anxiety or agitation?
  • Are you sad, exhausted, or depressed?
  • Has there been a change in the way you feel or behave toward others?

Does it Take Excessive Amounts of Meth to Get High?

  • Do you find that getting “high” requires more meth to get that same euphoric feeling you once got?
  • Does your body need meth more frequently than it once did?

Have You Tried Unsuccessfully to Quit on Your Own?

People who realize and admit they have a meth addiction often try first to quit on their own. Their progress may be marked by periods of relapse and recovery.

Some try self-help groups. Many times these methods lack the intensity needed to kick this tough addiction.

Meth rehab often provides a safe environment, structure, medical attention, therapy, and a stable program needed to end a meth addiction.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

We design all of our programs and treatment plans to fit the unique needs of each patient.

We believe in you and know you can beat addiction.

Why Choose AspenRidge Recovery?

When you are looking for a Colorado meth addiction treatment center, AspenRidge Recovery is an excellent choice.

Here’s what we have to offer those with meth addiction:

AspenRidge’s Colorado meth addiction treatment program offers three distinct recovery programs.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The ninety-day partial hospitalization program (PHP) meth addiction treatment program is run as an extended care treatment program with recovery residences. This intensive program ensures that those in active meth addiction get comprehensive treatment and learn to deal with life after rehab. The pressures and temptations of their regular environment are removed so these patients can focus on their addiction and how to overcome it.

What to Expect From PHP

AspenRidge has safe and comfortable housing with round-the-clock supervision and support. All facets of the residents’ medical, educational, social, and emotional needs are met through various treatment modalities.

Outside of individual therapy, patients participate in groups, twelve-step/community meetings, life-skills, job training, and social interaction.

When patients check into the residential program, they spend their first few weeks in the clinical service center. There, they attend sessions from Monday through Friday.

When clients have completed this phase, they are encouraged and facilitated in their search for gainful employment. This is part of their meth rehab aimed at helping clients to become more self-sufficient.

How We Aid During Transitions

There are several levels of drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs in Colorado. Our experienced staff can help determine individual needs and create a plan that is right for you. After successful completion of our PHP, many of our clients can benefit from the next level of care, which is Intensive Outpatient Programs, or IOP. In specific, IOP allows clients to return to their communities and home lives, while still participating in treatment three nights a week.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient treatment is part of our extended care model and, typically, is arranged as a 90-day program. Whether an individual enters as an in-patient client or begins treatment in IOP, this program serves to address meth addiction treatment while still allowing for flexibility of other obligations such as work, family life, and general day-to-day necessities. This program occurs during the evenings. Further, it allows patients to live at home,  and maintain their work and family lives while getting treatment. Evening counseling sessions assist clients with meth rehab while keeping the social and financial aspects as smooth as possible.

Outpatient Addiction Program

AspenRidge Recovery offers evidence-based treatment for all levels of care. Our outpatient addiction program consists of about 5 hours of therapy per week with psychiatry and recovery support services. Typically, this level of care is provided over 180+ days and while it’s our lowest level of care, it still offers ongoing support and addresses both methamphetamine substance use and addiction and mental health.

Aspen Ridge meth rehab uses a variety of approaches to treat the whole patient including meth addiction, physical, and mental health issues.

AspenRidge is Joint Commission Accredited and a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers. Our treatment programs are proven to be effective. There is hope for recovery from Colorado meth addiction.
